Horse — uma 馬

The horse evokes vitality, freedom and success. In Shinto shrines it is regarded as a messenger of the deities and a protector of the home. Giving a representation of a horse expresses a wish for strength and progress.

Otsu Housen (1929–2003)

A master working in Seto, Otsu Housen endowed each sculpture with an almost lifelike presence. His animals, from the humblest to the most mythical, balance formal power with poetry, making his works sought after by collectors and interior designers.
