Description

This vase by Nishikawa Seisui features an elegant, minimalist design that is a fine example of the Art Deco aesthetic in Japan, thanks to its clean, straight lines and a subtle combination of soft colors, primarily in shades of gray and blue. The surface is lightly textured, covered with a thin glaze that highlights the natural variations in the ceramic.

Nishikawa Seisui died in 1965, leaving behind a legacy of Japanese ceramics. His son, Nishikawa Masami, born in 1938, took over the family workshop after training under his father since 1963.

Nishikawa Seisui also had a distinguished career as a professor at the Ceramic Art Center in Nagoya, where he trained several ceramists, including Nishimoto Eisen, another respected name in the field.
