A finely carved Japanese boxwood netsuke depicting the Noh mask of Hannya, the embodiment of a woman consumed by jealousy and transformed into a demon. The raised horns, half-open mouth, and sharp teeth convey the tension of the face, between pain and fury. The warm patina of the boxwood highlights the quality of the modeling and the depth of the gaze.

On the reverse, a single hollowed-out compartment is crossed by a reserved bar bearing the Yoshitsugu signature. This work is part of the tradition of netsuke inspired by Noh theater, where the art of miniature meets the dramatic expressiveness of the scene.
