Description

This piece by Yuki Ogami is distinguished by a flattened, almost galactic shape, pierced by a narrow, off-center neck. The surface, a slightly sanded white, is enlivened by concentric grooves into which dark segments are embedded. This play of incisions and contrasts creates an impression of continuous movement, like waves expanding around the opening. The precision of the line underlines the technical mastery of the artist, trained under Suzuki Goro, but the material remains alive, punctuated by small irregularities that capture the light.

Born in 1986 in Hyogo Prefecture, Ogami graduated from Kanazawa University of the Arts in 2009. He continued his training with master ceramicist Suzuki Goro from 2012 before setting up his studio in Sasayama, in the Tamba region, a mecca of Japanese pottery. His work, regularly exhibited in Japanese department stores – Takashimaya Kyoto, Ginza Mitsukoshi, Daimaru Kobe – and at the Paku Paku An gallery in Tokyo, has been selected for major events such as the Mino International Ceramics Festival and the International Ceramics Festival.

This career now places him among the dynamic representatives of the new generation of Kansai ceramists.

Dimensions: approximately 30 cm in diameter and 11.5 cm in height.
