Description

This vase by Akira Shimizu has an irregular globular shape with a narrowed and then slightly flared neck. Its surface is covered with a layer of cream-colored clay, applied irregularly.

The continuous, random engraved lines add a subtle dynamism to the piece. The texture is accentuated by these incisions, creating a play of light and shadow. The patterns evoke a controlled spontaneity, reflecting great technical mastery.

Born in 1936 in Kyoto, Akira Shimizu studied under Living National Treasure Uichi Shimizu. His works are rare, making them all the more valuable to lovers of Japanese ceramics.

His work is distinguished by its attention to texture and form, showing a deep understanding of traditional ceramic techniques.

Little information is available on Akira Shimizu, but pieces such as this one demonstrate exceptional craftsmanship.
