Koishiwara stoneware vase circa 1980
Description
Stoneware hanaire vase, engraved and enamelled decoration, Koishiwara.
Japanese stoneware vase (hanaire), ovoid in shape, with a slightly inwardly curving rim. The glaze is light, creamy, finely speckled, with a deliberately irregular and matte texture that highlights the material.
The design depicts a vine with leaves and berries, rendered with great finesse: the design is engraved and then enhanced with a very light, glossy, and transparent glaze of remarkable quality. This contrast between the soft, matte background and the brighter glazed areas gives the design a subtle, almost tactile relief, without ever weighing down the form.
A stamp is present on the base. The vase is preserved in its original tomobako, signed Koishiwara circa 1980.
Dimensions: 30 × 22 cm.
