Stoneware sphere by Hashimoto Tomonari, 23 cm in diameter, with an iridescent surface that catches the light like a mineral planet. Metallic reflections ranging from deep blue to gold and purple evoke an expanding universe. Precisely controlled reduction firing creates these layers of oxides, transforming the piece into a cosmic landscape in which every nuance appears to shift.

Hashimoto Tomonari, born in Kyoto in 1973, studied at Kyoto University of the Arts before establishing his studio in the same city. A prizewinner at the Nitten, the Kyoto Art Exhibition and other national exhibitions, he quickly gained recognition for his refined forms and exploration of surface effects. His works are held in several public collections, including the Kyoto Museum of Art, the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, as well as museums in the United States and Europe.
