Cushion Made from an Antique Nishijin Obi

Contemporary cushion by Sinapango Interiors Paris, made in Paris from a high-quality antique Japanese obi. The textile is a 1970s Nishijin obi, from Kyoto’s celebrated weaving tradition, known for refined silk brocades and metallic threads.

The design combines broad vertical bands, floral garlands and a central geometric motif. The palette brings together gold, pearl grey, soft violet tones and subtle coppery reflections. The lightly metallic surface catches the light and enhances the sheen of the silk with restraint.

The four available cushions are all made from the same obi: the pattern is the same, but the placement of the bands and ornaments varies slightly from one piece to another. The reverse is finished in a textured grey-beige textile with a discreet tone-on-tone geometric pattern.
