Nishijin Silk Cushion with Ice Crystal Design

Contemporary cushion by Sinapango Interiors Paris, made from a Japanese Nishijin-type silk textile in cream, pale gold and light copper tones. The design is composed of large stylised ice crystals arranged within a geometric hexagonal network.

The textile has a beautiful woven relief, with gold and metallic thread highlights that catch the light. This type of brocade belongs to the Kyoto tradition of Japanese silk weaving, worked on Jacquard-type looms, close in principle to Lyon silk looms, allowing complex motifs to be produced through the structure of the weave itself.

In Japanese decorative arts, the ice crystal motif, yuki no kesshō, appears in textiles, decorated papers, lacquer and graphic arts. It evokes snow, the purity of winter and the fleeting beauty of natural phenomena. Snow also carries a beneficial association in Japan’s agrarian imagination, protecting the earth and announcing the water needed for crops. The motif therefore combines visual freshness with a discreet auspicious meaning.

The reverse is made in a cream fabric. All Sinapango Interiors Paris cushions are fully removable.
