Shibata Masaaki (柴田正明) is a Japanese ceramicist born in 1949.
He traveled to the United States in 1971 to study avant-garde ceramics, greatly influencing his artistic style.
Shibata Masaaki has won numerous awards, including the silver medal at the International Exhibition of Contemporary Ceramics.
His works have been presented at various prestigious events, including Expo '70 and the International Exhibition of Contemporary Sculpture.
Today, his ceramics are distinguished by a fusion of traditional Japanese techniques and modern sculptural expressions, placing him as a prominent figure in contemporary ceramics.
A traditional technique for this vase which, through its shape, evokes dragonflies and creates accidents of material with an effect accentuated by the double coloring and the play of light.
